THE GET:  I was gifted this cigar for review purposes; I have tried all my 262′s by this same means.  As always, much appreciation.

THE PACKAGING:  The REVERE comes in natural colored cedar boxes of 20, in a 5×4 stack, with the 262 REVERE logo burnt into the top and sides (burnt-ish maybe, I have only seen pictures); a very standard look, nothing fancy.  The band also has the same logo.  The company’s motto Smoke the Revolution is present on both as well.  I like the look.

THE CIGAR:  A wrapper from the Jalapa Valley showcases this IMG_5568Nicaraguan puro and a double binder encases the three-valley filler tobaccos.  The dark brown, heavily veined wrapper is oily and toothy while cloaking a very well constructed cigar body.  The aroma is inviting and tempting and will, no doubt, intrigue you to light it up.

If you were wondering about the name yes, it is named after Paul Revere; that Paul Revere, of ”one if by land, two if by sea” fame.  He also laid the ground work for one of the best This is SportsCenter commercials, featuring the UMass mascot.  If you haven’t seen it, click here.  Clint Aaron has created the 262 Cigars with the heart of cigar smoking in the forefront; 262 stands for Feb ’62 when President Kennedy signed into law the Cuban Trade Embargo.  The battle against smoking bans and tobacco taxation have been fought ever since; with the recent actions of this administration, it is more important than ever to stand up and support cigar smoking rights.  This is what Mr. Aaron stands for, and this is what 262 Cigars represent.  You can read about it more on their website here.

IMG_5570THE SMOKE:  After lighting the REVERE, I am welcomed with a wealth of earthy tobacco flavors accompanied by a slight sweet note of some sort; I have read people describe it as a citrus taste and I can’t argue with that, seems accurate enough.  The initial ash held for over an inch, solidly, and has a very light gray, almost white, color.  The burn line was sharp and burned evenly throughout the smoke.  As the cigar progressed, the front loaded flavors were joined by spice and pepper with a little chocolate coming in and out.  These flavors stayed consistent the rest of the way and I will say it falls in the medium area of strength.  The amount of smoke produced was good I was able to smoke it down to a nub without experiencing a downturn in the quality of flavor.  The REVERE gave me a nice 80 minutes of smoke time.

THE SKINNY:  This is a really good cigar but I have to stop short of saying great.  It is a nice addition to the 262 line and I would definitely recommend it to everyone as a cigar to try.  As I wrote this review, I smoked the corona size and I did like it better so if you are a fan of the thinner ring gauge, give that one a try.  It also has a box-pressed option if you prefer those.  I would put it behind the Paradigm, which I reviewed last March, but way ahead of the Ecology Ideology, which I felt was underwhelming in taste.  These are affordably priced, so go support your local B&M and the great work Clint Aaron is doing with this brand.
